About the Print
Nestled in, just down the coast from Craster, Northumberland, is Cullernose Point at the northern end of the Great Whin Sill, is a deep water mark with high basaltic cliffs which are a significant feature of the local landscape within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
I made 2 monotypes directly onto acetate whilst perched on the rocks as the sea swirled around and printed the monotypes on a portable etching press in my van by the roadside. I love the freedom and looseness of the process that encourages experimentation and boldness.
Back in the studio I ended up combining the 2 prints to create the 2:1 format that emphasised the powerful shape of this iconic cliff.
